Samir Nasri, as a child, used to play football on the streets very often and this is where he developed most of his skills. His parents signed him up to a local football club, Pennes Mirabeau, when he was eight years old. At the age of nine, he was spotted by Marseille scouts, Freddy Assolen and Roger Giovannini, while he was playing for a local junior team. They were impressed by his talent and signed him up to the Marseille youth club, where he played from 2000 to 2004. Samir Nasri made his debut for the Olympique de Marseille football club in the 2004-2005 season at the age of 17.
He was a part of the team that emerged victorious at the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2005. His team, Olympique de Marseille, was the runner-up of Coupe de France in 2006 and 2007. Samir Nasri was named as the “French League Young Player of the Year” in 2007, while he was playing for Marseille. He has scored six times and produced ten decisive passes in 30 Ligue 1 appearances, thus equalizing his tally with that of Jérôme Leroy (Rennes) and Nenê (Monaco) as a league leading figure.
Samir Nasri played four years for his club, Olympique de Marseille, that included over 100 competitive games, and in 2008, he signed to play for Arsenal for a contract period of four years. Arsène Wenger, Arsenal manager, said that Samir Nasri is young, quick and an exceptional player and feels that he would add great quality to the club. He played in the Barclays Premier League, where he scored one goal in his very first appearance.
In the football world Samir Nasri is known as “Le Petit Prince”, and has also been referred to “The New Zinedine Zidane”. This comparison is attributed to his Algerian heritage and his style of play, which are similar to that of the French legend, Zinedine Zidane. The manner with which Samir Nasri commands matches might remind people of Zidane but the former concentrates on his passing ability more than the French icon. This Marseille born football player was voted by football fans as “Marseille’s Player of the Year” in 2007.
