Daniel Guiza Biography

Daniel Guiza Biography
Daniel González Güiza (born August 17, 1980 in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz) is a Spanish footballer of Roma origin who plays for Fenerbahçe S.K. as a striker. He is also a Spanish international.

Club career
Having started playing in hometown Xerez CD, Güiza was snapped up by Real Mallorca still a teenager, but failed to impress in three seasons at the insular club, playing only 7 times and scoring just 1 goal.

After two seasons in the third level, he moved to Ciudad de Murcia before joining Getafe CF for 2005-06. There, Güiza blossomed as a top-flight striker, scoring 20 goals in just over 60 games, while the team from the Madrid outskirts achieved two consecutive ninth-league places.

On July 2007, Güiza returned to Mallorca, finishing the season as the league's top scorer, netting 27 times, with no penalty kicks. On July 8, 2008, he signed for Turkish club Fenerbahçe S.K. for €14 million, becoming the most expensive foreign player to be transferred to the Super Lig, netting twice in his first 3 games.

International career
On November 8, 2007, Güiza was called for the first time to a Spanish national side which faced Sweden and Northern Ireland in UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying. He made his international debut against the latter on November 21 in a 1-0 home win in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as the nation's fate was already (for the best) decided. He was subsequently named in Spain's UEFA Euro 2008 final squad. On June 18, 2008, Güiza scored Spain's second goal in a 2-1 victory over Greece at Euro 2008's group stage for his first international goal. He also came on as a substitute in Spain's quarterfinal against Italy, missing the fourth kick in their penalty shootout win.

In the semi-finals match against Russia, Güiza scored his second international and Euro 2008 goal, as Spain won the game 3–0, and eventually the final versus Germany (1–0), where he also played.
